Set a Schedule and Organise Your Time
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
There’s no right or wrong answer here and working at a time that you know is a peak period of productivity for you (if your job permits it), is by far one of the most rewarding changes you can make .
Set yourself a routine
This is a great way of encouraging yourself to get going in the morning and do all of the things that you would do if you were leaving the house:
- Set an alarm to wake up
- Get showered and dressed
- Have some breakfast
- Drink a big glass of water
By performing a small morning routine like this, you will find that getting started on work is much easier.
In terms of organising your time, if you work with people in a different time zone, you may have to make adjustments to your work day in this sense, but make it clear to those business partners which hours you’ll be available, so that it’s not disrupting your routine elsewhere.
Get Your Blood Pumping and Get Some Fresh Air
You don’t need to run a marathon, but it can be very beneficial to do something physical at least once every day to break up any monotonous routines.
Even if you do 15 minutes of yoga in your garden, a relaxation and stretch video on YouTube, or 5 minutes of star jumps, the effect will be that your body and mind will feel much better afterwards.
Looking After Your Mental Health Is Vital To Get a Good Work-Life Balance
Exercise is a great way of looking after your mental wellbeing, and the endorphins it releases can greatly lift your mood. But it’s also about doing the things you love.
A good work-life balance also means doing a job that you love and job satisfaction and feeling a sense of achievement is a great way of boosting your feelings of positivity and therefore looking after yourself.
Good mental health will lead to good physical health and visa versa, they go hand in hand.
Don’t forget to switch off
At the end of your work day, whenever that may be (remember to stick to the schedule that works for you) make sure you switch off your computer and/or your work phone.
The great thing about working from home is that you don’t have to stick to the normal 9 to 5 workday routine, but it is important that your work and your life remain separate so that you can still get a great deal of satisfaction from both.
